ANOTHER extra post
Why are there so many places named Richelieu in Québec?! And why is one of the three wings of the Louvre, the largest museum in the world, named Richelieu?! And what's the connection to the town of Richelieu in Western France?! And who founded the Académie Française?! The First Minster of Louis XIII - who had the most exquisitely French name - Armand Jean du Plessis - known to history as Cardinal Richelieu!!! A titanic figure who steered France through the cataclysmic events of the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648), Cardinal Richelieu lived in times so violent and disturbing, the 21st century will look rosy by comparison!!! I can't recommend this biography enough!!!
This is now on my reading list.
