Everyone has their very own favorite Musketeers film version - imagine my astonishment when the facial features of this statue in the southern French town of Condom, near the town of Lupiac, the Gascon birthplace of Charles de Batz de Castelmore d'Artagnan (c. 1611-1673), were those of the actors from MY Three Musketeers!!! Created by the legendary Georgian-Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli and installed in 2010, the Four Musketeers statue was inspired by the Russian 1978 Д'Артаньян и три мушкетёра with Valentin Smirtinsky portraying Portos, Veniamin Smekhov Atos, Igor Starygin Aramis, and the inimitable Mikhail Boyarsky d'Artagnan!!! I would have jumped for joy seeing this statue anywhere - but to encounter it in Gascony was sublime!!! I was so bonkers about this film version when I was a kid, I dressed as a dashing musketeer for winter carnival the year after it was released!!! No need to watch it - remember - all of us have OUR PERSONAL favorite film versions!!! This one is definitely mine!!! Thank you for this magnificent statue, Zurab Tsereteli!!!
Your youthful enthusiasm continues!
