Dostoevsky’s "White Nights" inspired several notable film adaptations including:
The 1957 Italian film Le notti bianche directed by Luchino Visconti starring Maria Schell, Jean Marais, and Marcello Mastroianni, with music by Nino Rota. The action takes place in post WWII Italy - but the film captures the mood of the novella fabulously!!!
The 1971 French film Quatre nuits d'un rêveur (Four Nights of a Dreamer) was directed by Robert Bresson - starring Isabelle Weingarten.
The 2003 Tamil-language Iyarkai was directed by S. P. Jananathan - starring Shaam, Kutty Radhika, and Seema Biswas.
The Hindi-language 2007 film Saawariya (My love), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was the first Bollywood film released by a Hollywood studio, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor.
